Here I will be sharing about my view on Islam. And why Islam should not institutionalized as a Religion. I was born as Muslim. Both my parents are Muslim. My elementary school was in Islamic school. And as the same as whole Indonesia citizen, I got studied Islam religion in our formal education from elementary to univesity. I have spent my 20’s to early 30’s questioning the Islam as a Religion. But I am not dare to openly discuss it. After I get connected with Quran only group discussion. And furthermore I get connected with Bachrun Linawa. Now, I am confidence to share the discourse about these topic. Since I have same view with Bachrun Linawa regarding Islam. Therefore I will share Bachrun Linawa note from his Facebook note. The original note was in Indonesian language. In here, I share the English translation (it still rough translation using Microsoft Word, the grammar and punctuation are imperfect, I will gradually double check and correct the wording and grammar in another time). I share also the Bahasa Indonesia link of Bachrun Linawa notes.
Deen of Allah: Ad-Deen Al-Islam!
Salamun Alaykum (6:54)
I wrote a note is based on the multiple questions and statements which the answer is often one does not satisfy me, such as:
1. The Qur’an is for The whole race of man
Why until the moment it is only those who claimed the religion of Islam to use it? Why doesn’t Christianity also use the Qur’an? Why are n’t Jews too? Why Hindus and Buddhists also do not? Maybe just no yes.. But certainly not the majority.
2. How Islam can explain the fate of a man on the day of Judgment later, which born, put in the state of Nicaragua, religious Christians or Jews, who do not know the Koran, not to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad to him, and until he died he did not ever hear that the N Ame is Islam. But He is the virtuous kind, generous, friendly, and likes to help others. Whether He will enter Hell because of Islam?
Answers that I received varied,
-there that says if she does not ever hear about Islam, he is an exception from hell, but if you ‘ ve ever heard, she had to move religion
-There are in extreme says that any deeds, if he dies in a state of no religion Islam, then he entered hell.
The answers above sound strange to me,
Not Fair according to me, because no one else man who could choose, what religion his father when he was born. Even If for example he has never heard of Islam and his story goes to heaven, why with the same practice, his fellow believers who have heard of Islam (but not moved) must go to hell?
To the extreme, it is not fair again if he had to do well and do good in the world when it died later, must enter hell because religion does not ever he see or hear at all. (Even If you suddenly go to hell, the first comment would be, WHAT THE HELL?! Hahaha ~)
I do not know how to view the Jews and the Christians will respect this. But I guess likely the same course, all people will assume that ‘ religion ‘ most correct.
It is his religion that will save from the fires of hell.
For that, the statement Qur’an to the whole human being should I review the back.
I try to read the Koran by releasing all my religious attributes. I try to read the Quran, not as the people of Islam, but as a human being. And as much as possible I try to remove assumption which exists in the interpretation Koran (usually marked with brackets) except for the word change people or objects by the context of the verse. I try to leave from ‘ empty ‘.
Although difficult, I try. Starting from the following verse:
3:85. He who seeks a religion other than Islam, it is a novel approach is not going to be accepted (the religion that) thereof, and He was in the afterlife, including those who lose.
From the verse above, I emphasize the word “religion” (language Arabic on the verse above: Deen) and the word Islam. Let ‘ s discuss one by one.
1. About “Desire”

If the context of the verse at 3:85 of the views glimpse course, I also agree that the word “Deen” means “religion”. Let us think about it logically. In the language of any, a word just will have a meaning only. For example, in Indonesian, the word “table” just going to refer to an object that is named “table”, which we use to write or purposes other. ” Chair “is not going to ever be able to say as a” table “, because it has a meaning and a different designation.
Does It logical if said Deen had, most did not, three meanings are different? Namely, “Religion”, “retaliation” and “law”? Who is wrong? Is Allah Almighty wrong in sending down His Book?? Most Holy God of all errors… What happens here is INCONSISTENCY translation of the translators of the Qur’an (May Allah forgive us all of the omission of this…)
More far more about the inconsistency of translation:
2:135. And They say: “Let you become a follower of Judaism or Christianity, surely you will get a clue”. Say: “No, but (we follow) the religion of Abraham straight. And is not he (Ibrahim) from the class of the idolaters “?
In the above verse, if you look at the Arabic language, the word “Haaneefan ibraahiima Haniifa” is interpreted as “Abraham’s righteous Religion”, with the word “haaneefan” interpreted as “religion”. Once again, the case of inconsistency translation. The word Which is more precisely defined as a religion? “Millata” or “Deen”?? The word Millata itself is more inclined to mean the way, or tradition.
Due to the inconsistency of translation like this, then I returned to refer to verses other in the Qur’an, to seek out the meaning of the word “Deen” to see the context of the verses is.
3:83 So If they seek a religion other than the religion of God, whereas to-Him-who surrender themselves all what that is in the heavens and on earth, either by love or forced and only to Allah, the one they returned.
From the above verse, the word “Desire” is again interpreted as religion. Interesting to note, that the verse is, God explained that everything that in the heavens and on earth, surrendering myself to him (Arabic: Aslama, derivatives word of Islam).
In the Qur’an, Allah repeated times ordered that we take lessons from the creation of the heavens and the earth, the following are some verses such as:
3:190. It’s in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and one after the alternation of the night and daytime there are signs for people of understanding.
16:12 And He subdues night And day, Sun and moon for you. And The stars are subdued (for you) by His command. Indeed, in that so it was no signs (power of God) for people who understand
32:4. God was the one who created the heavens that exist in between the two in six times, then he sits at the top of the Throne. There is no one for you other than Him, a helper and not (also) a giver of piety. Then do you not pay attention?
45:5 and at the turn of the night and daytime and rain that descended God of heaven then turned His with water rain the earth after death, and the revolution of Wind are signing (power of God) for people who understand.
The verses-paragraph above and the passages next to explain the obvious, the process of creation and how work/designation creation His:
10:5. He is who makes the sunshine and the moon luminous and set His manz-Manzilah (places) for the trip in it so that you know the number of and the reckoning (of time). God did not create that so that it is at right. He explained the signs (His greatness) to those who knew.
14:32-33. Allah, the one who has created the heavens and the earth and lowering the water raining from the sky, then he put out with water or rain that various fruits into sustenance for you; And He has bowed ark for you so that the Ark was, sailing in the ocean with the will of His, and He has bowed (also) for you rivers. And he had to subdue (also) to you the Sun and the moon are kept constantly in circulation (in its orbit), and have subdued you night and day.
16:16. and (He created) signs (pointer Road). And the stars that they got instructions
Of the various paragraphs above, I take the conclusion, all creations of Allah are described in the verses above (especially who are in the sky as the Sun, moon, stars, clouds and the creation of others), everything SUBJECT COMPLIANT (Aslama, Islam) on the “Deen” God.
Could objects such as the Sun, Moon, stars, etc., which for this on the bench Learning school, has been taught to us as objects “dead”, also “religion of Islam” because it is subject to the “Religion” (Deen) Allah? (See back 3:83, the Deen of Allah).

Finally I came to the conclusion, that the word “Desire” is not properly interpreted as “religion”. The word “Deen” is close to significance with TERMS/RULES/SYSTEM. According to me a logical one if all the creations of God that there are in the heavens and on earth is subject obedient to the “Deen of Allah”, subject to the TERMS Him, obedient to the RULES or SYSTEM Him. Allah, the one who creates EVERYTHING, of course God is also the most ENTITLED define rules or system of the creation of His mentioned.
Now, after understanding the context of the word “Deen” which is close to its meaning with the provisions/Rules/system (start time of this, I am not going to define again the word Deen as religion, will keep me writing as Deen), let us go back to the third paragraph on the beginning of writing this (3:85, 1:4 and 12:76) that wherein, said Deen interpreted differently to the third paragraph of the.
3:85. Whoever seek Deen other than the Deen of Islam, then once-this time not be accepted (Deen ‘ s) thereof, and he was in the afterlife, including those who lose.
From the above verse, if we understand the word “Desire” as God’s rule or system, the purpose of the verse is fulfilled. When His whole universe is in sync with the provisions of His, everything SUBJECT COMPLIANT the system of His, everything goes and serves with PERFECT without a blemish whatsoever, all in accordance with with the will of His, who are we, the humans? That with pride refused RULES/SYSTEM that cater His to us??
For us…
1:4. Who mastered the day of the Deen.
All Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Universe nature! This verse will be VERY CLEAR meaning after understanding the meaning of the word “Desire”. Will however, because the explanation which is quite long, will be discussed in the discussion of the next.

The word “Deen Maliki” also when using the definition of Deen as a rule/system, means “rule of the King”. The purpose of this verse is also fulfilled.
As a conclusion, the word “Deen” is close meaning to the “provision/rule or system” by because it is, start time is for further would I write just as Deen, do not I mean more as a religion.
2. About “Islam”
We’re back again to Surah Al-Imran verse 85:
3:85. Whoever seek Deen other than the Deen of Islam, then once-this time not be accepted (Deen ‘ s) thereof, and he was in the afterlife, including those who lose.
Who or what are Islam it? I’m trying to find out.
Islam is a word Arabic that means surrender themselves, subject obedient. To refer to the one used the word Muslim means that subject obedient, who surrender themselves.
I tried to search in the Quran by using the keyword surrender yourself, there are some verses that interesting.
3:67. Ibrahim is not a Jew and not (also) a Christian, would be but he is one who straight again surrender themselves (to Allah) and a novel approach was not he included groups of people idolaters.
* Verse is embedding said Muslims (surrender themselves) to Abraham. So, Abraham is a Muslim (Muslim)
27:44……… Said, Balquis: “Yes my Lord, indeed I have done unjustly towards me and I surrender myself together with Sulaiman to Allah, the Lord of the universe of nature.”
* Prophet Solomon and the Queen of Saba, Balquis surrender themselves to God. The Prophet Sulaiman and his followers are Muslims (Muslims)
12:67. And Ya’qub said:…………………… The decision to stipulate (something) is only God’s right; To-Him-was I put my trust and let to His just people who are trusting surrender themselves. “
2:133. Are there any you present when Jacob arrival (signs) death, when he said to his sons: “What are you worship after me?” They replied: ‘ We will worship your God and the God grandmother your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and ISAAC, (namely) God the one and only and We just bow obedient to His “.
* Prophet Yaqub admitted to surrender himself, the Prophet Ya’qub Muslims (Muslims), as well as with their offspring.
10:84. Said Moses: “O My people, if you are faithful to God, then put your trust to His course, if you are really those who surrender themselves.”
10:90. And we allow the Children of Israel across the sea, and they were followed by Pharaoh And Army troops, as about to persecute And oppress (them); Until when Pharaoh that had nearly drowned said to him: “I believe that is no God but God who is believed by the Children of Israel, and I am including those who surrender themselves (to Allah).”
* Prophet Musa and Harun claimed to surrender himself, Moses and Aaron are Muslims (Muslim), his followers, the sons of Israil should also Muslims. Even Pharaoh was, in the seconds before the death, finally admit that there is no God other than Allah, and finally admitted to surrender himself!
3:52 So when Jesus knew rebuff them (Bani Israelites) said to him: “Who are going to be my helpers to (uphold the religion) of God?” The Hawariyyin (Friends Loyal) said: “We are helpers (religion) of Allah, We are faithful to God and bear witness that indeed We are the people who surrendered themselves.
* Jesus and his followers claimed to surrender himself, Jesus and his followers are Muslims (Muslim) There are many more verses others indicate Prophets in the above (and which are not mentioned) and his followers claimed Muslims. We can search with the keyword “Subject to Obey”. Finally I came to the conclusion. Every Prophet Since the days of Adam up to the Prophet Muhammad (including Moses and Jesus) and his followers are Muslim.
2:136. 136. Say (O people Believers): “We are faithful to God and what were downgraded to us, and what are relegated to Abraham, Isma’il, ISAAC, Jacob and the children grandchildren, and what that given to Moses and Isa and what that was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not discriminate one between them and us only subject obedient to His “.
With other words, they all are “Islamic” in view of the Qur’an. Everything is subject obedient to Allah SWT.
From the discussion earlier about the “Deen” we know, which is subject obedient to Allah and the Deen His is not just a man alone. The whole of what that exist in the heavens and on earth is submissive to the Deen of Allah. Everything has been arranged by God with perfect accordance with with Deen His. Rather It is we as human beings are not perfect, by because of it, it is we, the people of the human VERY NECESSARY regulated in accordance with with the will of His, according to Deen His. Will However, it is our most many REFUTES Deen of Allah.
The purpose of human creation:
33:72. In fact, we have revealed the message to the heavens, the earth and the mountains, so all are reluctant to carry the message and they are afraid that they will betray it, and that the message is carried out by humans. Truly humans are very wrong and very stupid,
51:56. And I did not create the Jinn And humans but that they serve to mine.
2:30 Remember When your Lord said to the angel: “Behold I am about to make a caliph in the face of the earth.” They said: “Why do you want to make (caliph) on Earth the people who will make damage to it and shed blood, while we always exalt to commend you and purify you?” God says: “Surely I know what you do not know.”
Allah creates us become Caliph in the face of the earth is, who should we live in accordance with with the “Deen His”, will be but it is our most many argue!
18:54 And Indeed We have repeated for humans in this Qur’an various kinds of parables. And The man is a creature of the most many argue.
Because of that, Allah sent to us the human beings, Prophets Prophets and Apostles apostles His from among our own, to re-remind us to the Deen of God:
23:32 Then We sent to them, an apostle from among their own (who said): “Worship God by you all, once-this time not no God besides than His. So Why do you not fear Allah (to His).
The Prophets and Apostles were sent by Allah to this world only to carry out one mission:
42:13. He has word for you about the Deen what that has been wasified His to Noah and what that had We revealed to you and what that has We wasified to Abraham, Moses and Jesus, namely: Establish the Deen and do not you broken to apart of it. Very heavy for the polytheists Diin that you called them to him. God attractive to the Deen that people who desired His and give instructions to the (Deen) His people back (to His).
All the Prophets and Messengers only have one vision and mission: ENFORCEMENT OF GOD Deen in the face OF the earth is.
Of Reality in the above I started to understand the verse below:
3:85. Whoever seek Deen other than the Deen of Islam, then once-this time not be accepted (Deen ‘ s) thereof, and he was in the afterlife, including those who lose.
Continues, how with which adheres to Hinduism, Buddhism, or the “religion” of the earth more? (Use of the word religion here to separate from “God’s Desire”) Does Islam also include the understanding of the religion of the Earth?
I found the promises of God follows, which proves the Qur’an recognizes the “religion” of the earth outside the Deen of Allah who brought the prophets, namely Shabiin:
2:62. Indeed, the believers, the Jews, the Christians and the Sabeans, who alone among those who truly faithful to God, a day later and charitable union, they will receive a reward from the Lord they are, not no worries to them, and not (also) they grieve the heart.
5:69. Indeed, the believers, the Jews, Sabeans and the Christians, who alone (among them) were truly virtuous, it is not no concern to them and not (also) they grieve the heart.
Paragraph is to answer the question I how the fate of someone who does don’t ever come book to them (Ummi) or warning the Apostles (not only Apostle Muhammad). God still counts on them as long as they believe in God. I give emphasis on the word of God here on language Arabic which means “Al-Ilah” or God. So that each person can only have the title to the Lord depends language that is used.
The following story of the Prophet Ibrahim convinced me:
6:75-79. And thus We show to Abraham signs of majesty (we were there) in the heavens and the Earth and (We Show) that he included those who believe. When the night was dark, he saw a star (then) he said: “This is my Lord”, but when the star was sinking he said: “I do not like to the sink.” Then when he saw the moon rise he said: “This is my Lord”. But after a month it went down, he said: “Surely if the Lord did not give instructions to me, must I include those who go astray.” Then when he saw the sun rising, he said: “This is my Lord, these are more substantial”. So when the sun was setting, he said: “O my people, indeed I am leaving myself of anything that you associate. Indeed, I expose myself to the Lord that created the heavens and the earth, to tend to the religious right, and I’m not including people who associating partners with God.
Prophet Abraham exemplifies how the process of finding him to the Lord through the signs of the power of God in the heavens and on the Earth, without a hint book, even had alternated ‘ God ‘, but in the end a fruitful conclusion of the one Essence single that almighty power . So God We are the Lord that one. Just call it that different, Allah, Alah, Yahweh, Sang Hyang Widhi, is the One who in. God that one.
Finally I understood why Ibrahim was appointed as an Imam for all humans:
2:124. And (remember), when Ibrahim was tested by his Lord with a few sentences (commands and prohibitions), then Ibrahim performed it. God says: “Verily I will make you priests for all men”. Ibrahim said: “From my Descendants”. God says: “My promises (this) do not concern the wrongdoers”.
He is a perfect example for a straight religion, both celestial religion (‘ Islam ‘, Christianity, Judaism) which incidentally is all the Desire of God, and the religion of the Earth.
The Prophet Muhammad was also instructed in the Qur’an to follow Abraham’s straight Tradition/Way (Haaneefan):
3:95. Say (Muhammad): “Truly (what is said) God.” Then follow the tradition/Way (Haaneefan) Ibrahim straight, and not him, including those who are idolaters.
4:125. And who are more well Deen her from the people who willingly submit themselves to God, was he too was doing a favor, and he followed the tradition/Way (Haaneefan) Ibrahim straight? And Allah took Abraham to be His favorite.
Prophet Ibrahim is the beloved prophet of God.
Now I have begun to understand the universality of the Koran. The Koran promising punishment to which do not obey from group ‘ Islamic ‘ (which we know SKRG this, the followers of the Prophet Muhammad), equal severity to the punishment that was given to the group Jews and Christians who do not obey the Apostle. At the time the same, the Quran also promises paradise to the group ‘ Muhammad ‘ who obey the Apostle in good with the promise that was given to the group of Christians and Jews who obey the Apostle, even groups Shabiin that beyond religion divine.
I understand now that the term Islam, Muslims, it is not only referring to the people of Muhammad, but also to the followers of the prophet others, including the people of the Prophet Moses (Jews) and the people of Prophet Jesus (Christians).
I am also so understand why Allah in the Qur’an do not ever mention the Jewish and Christian as a “Deen”. Because for God, we all are ONE Deen, Deen GOD. Following how/tradition of Prophet Ibrahim straight, where the Prophet Abraham was Imam for the whole race of man. Finally I understood the meaning of this verse after reading the Koran without ‘ religious ‘ sentiments.
21:92. Indeed, the people of this community are one and I was thy Lord, so worship I.
One question again that arises, why the Shari’a 3 religion divine, ‘ Islam ‘ (Always my love quotes to mark that it is Islam faction Muhammad) Christian, Jewish is so different? Why not just put together??
2:213. Humans It is the people that one. Then God sent the prophets, as givers of warning, and God lowered along their Book of the right, to give a decision in between the man about the case which they differ. It is not at loggerheads about the Book of it but people who have been brought to them the Book, ie after coming to those particulars are real, because of envy among their own. Then God gave instructions those faithful to the truth about things that they can not agree that the will of His. And God always gives guidance people who desired His to the way that straight.
Humans are beings that one, split because of jealousy between them. God does not like division and grouping. This is because they start to break down and try to separate the Deen of Allah on the life of their (secular):
4:150. Surely those who disbelieve to God and messengers-apostles of His, and intend to distinguish between (belief to) God and Messengers-apostles of His, by saying: “We are faithful to the part and We disbelieve against some (other)”, and intends (with Words it) take the road (middle) in between the so (faith or unbelievers).
23:52-54. Indeed The Ummah of this, is the community that one, and I was your Lord, so keep your duty to mine. Then They (the followers of the Apostles it) makes matters they split apart into several fragments. Each Group feels proud with what that exist on the side of their (respectively). Then let them in their error until a time.
God hates people who break the Deen of Allah that monotheism is into factions, such as ‘ Islam ‘, Christians, and Jews. All the Apostles were ordered to enter into the Deen who surrender themselves (Dienul Islam), and not as a group. And of course, the Apostles will be called on to his followers in order to not be diversified.
Grouping of course will be something that seems natural if we are in one Deen, presented with different sharia. Jewish by law the Law, the Christian with the law of the Gospel, and “Islam” with the law of the Koran. But without us realizing the message in each holy book will call us to the one Deen, and will not be classified.
But we may not be aware of, and eventually formed the world as what we know now this.
I just realized the meaning of the following verse:
3:64. Say: “O People of the Book, let (adhering) to a sentence (Purgatori) which did not exist a dispute between us and you, that is not our worship except God and not we associate him with nothing and not (also) most of us make the most of the others as a god but Allah “. If They turn away then say to them: “Bear witness, that we are those who submit themselves (to God)”.
The Prophet Muhammad called on the People of the Book (People who hold the Torah and the Gospel), to look for equality, that is monotheism, instead of inviting the scholars of the Book to convert ‘ religion ‘. With other words Prophet Muhammad recognize Sharia which was brought by Moses and Jesus.
5:46. And We laid out the trace them (Prophets Prophets of Bani Israel) with Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Book that previously, namely: the Torah. And we have been giving him the Book of Gospels was in it (there is) guidance and and Light (which illuminates), and confirmed the book before, namely the Book of the Law. And become instructions and teachings for those who fear Allah.
10:37. It is not possible that this Qur’an was made by other than Allah; Would however (Quran it) justifies the books beforehand and explain the laws that have the stipulation, is not no doubt in it, (derived) from the Lord of the universe of nature.
The following verses:
2:135. And They say: “Let you become a follower of Judaism or Christianity, surely you will get a clue”. Say: “No, but (we follow) the way/Tradition (Haaneefan) of Abraham which is straight. And He is not (Ibrahim) from the group of Polytheists “.
5:51. O believers, do not take the Jews and Christians to become your leaders; Some they are leaders for some others. Whoever among you takes them to be leaders, then surely that person belongs to their group. Verily Allah does not give guidance to those who do wrong.
is not confirming that the teachings of the Torah or the Gospel are wrong or have been expired along with the coming of the next Prophet as most of the opinion is, but, the Prophet Muhammad was instructed by God not to be classified as a Jewish group or a Christian group. Must still uphold the Deen of Allah.
Prophet Muhammad was not commanded to clicking-‘ Convert ‘ the experts book in order to be his followers. Even as much as possible not to argue, if want to argue, debate in a way that is good.
29:46. And Do you argue with the People of the Book, but with the way most good, except with those wrongdoers in between them, And say: “We have faith in the (books) were downgraded to us And were relegated to you; The Lord our Lord is one; And we just told His surrender ourselves. “
5:68. Say: “O People of the Book, you are not considered to have the slightest religion until you establish the teachings of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an which were revealed to you from your Lord”. Verily what is revealed to you from your Lord will add wickedness and disbelief to most of them; Then do not you grieve the hearts of the people who reject it.
The Prophet Muhammad told the people of the Prophet Moses and the People of the Prophet Jesus to uphold the teachings of their respective books, so that they could be seen as submissive and obedient by God. Sharia is simply testing compliance that test and become a benchmark measuring/marker of whether we still REMAIN FAITHFUL to the Deen of Allah. Are we still remain alive according to Will of His. Do we still keep walking in His path that is straight.
What was ‘ religion ‘ we are, back to DIEN GOD, teachings PURE are actually from the book each: God we are the Lord that one. Let US reconcile disputes between people of faith among us.

17. Al-Israa ‘: 24
