Quran Discussion : Bid’ah (Innovation in Religious Practices)

Q: I would like to have your explanation regarding Bi’dah (innovation ritual) in Islam based on Quran. This usually we got now from hadith whose Sunni sect continuously forcing and make most of defamation toward people who follow Quran only.

ok sis well first to truely understand bi’dah you need to see how the root is used in the Quran.

The root means beginner/originator in these ayats

2:117 >>”badīʿu”<< l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa-idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūnu

“(The) Originator” (of) the heavens and the earth! And when He decrees a matter, [so] only He says to it “Be,” and it becomes.

and

6:101 >>”badīʿu”<< l-samāwāti wal-arḍi annā yakūnu lahu waladun walam takun lahu ṣāḥibatun wakhalaqa kulla shayin wahuwa bikulli shayin ʿalīmun

Originator (of) the heavens and the earth. How can be for Him a son while not (there) is for Him a companion, and He created every thing? And He (is) of every thing All-Knower.

In this ayat it means new/first/original/new innovation

46:9 qul mā kuntu >>”bid’ʿan”<< mina l-rusuli wamā adrī mā yuf’ʿalu bī walā bikum in attabiʿu illā mā yūḥā ilayya wamā anā illā nadhīrun mubīnun

Say, “Not I am a “new (one)” among the Messengers and not I know what will be done with me and not with you. Not I follow but what is revealed to me and not I am but a warner clear.”

and here it means innovated

57:27 thumma qaffaynā ʿalā āthārihim birusulinā waqaffaynā biʿīsā ib’ni maryama waātaynāhu l-injīla wajaʿalnā fī qulūbi alladhīna ittabaʿūhu rafatan waraḥmatan warahbāniyyatan >>”ib’tadaʿūhā”<< mā katabnāhā ʿalayhim illā ib’tighāa riḍ’wāni l-lahi famā raʿawhā ḥaqqa riʿāyatihā faātaynā alladhīna āmanū min’hum ajrahum wakathīrun min’hum fāsiqūna

Then We sent on their footsteps Our Messengers and We followed with Isa, son (of) Maryam, and We gave him the Injeel. And We placed in (the) hearts (of) those who followed him compassion and mercy. But monasticism they “innovated” – not We prescribed it for them – only seeking (the) pleasure (of) Allah, but not they observed it (with) right observance. So We gave those who believed among them their reward, but most of them (are) defiantly disobediently.

a quick look at the above ayats.

When Allah uses the word it means Originator, when prophets use the word it means new or original, when it mentions Monasticism or something man decided to contribute, it calls it an innovation.

So sis now to what is bi’dah in Islam.

As I showed earlier we follow the faith of Ibrahim. We must put our complete trust in Allah alone and nothing manmade or bi’dah.

In 5:3 …. This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion;….

Here we are told that Islam, our deen is completed and perfected, so when the Quran was delivered Islam was complete.

That means everything after Quran is bi’dah. All hadiths are innovations.

Q: How the law about bid’ah it self according to Quran.  100% haram, or you may doing it as long as not refute/confront Quran?

As I said in my last paragraph, anything after Quran must be considered a bid’ah and incorrect

I can’t say (due to Quran) if something is halal or haram but bid’ah is frowned upon. If I do call it haram then I inadvertently am creating a bid’ah.

16:116 And (do) not say for that which assert your tongues, the lie, “This (is) Halal and this (is) Haram,” so that you invent about Allah the lie. Indeed, those who invent about Allah the lie, they will not succeed.

Q: In your opinion what is the safer way for you. Quran only 100% mandatory, so everything that part of muslim ritual and culture that it was not literally mention or prescribed in Quran, you absolutely avoid or do not do it. For example Idul Fitr celebration including salah Idul Fitr, etc.

I avoid it completely.

I don’t see the point of doing things introduced by thr culture of man and not ordained by Allah.

Sis, regards to Eid al-Fitr, firstly I don’t celebrate Eid at all and I fast for 40 days, therefore I fast straight through that celebration.

I wrote an article as to why I fast 40 days

It’s long but gives lots of evidence for why I fast that long

For Ramadan I personally fast for 40 days, straight through the Eid festivities.

30 because I’m required to, 10 from my own desire. Thats the way I see it.

I get criticised every year and told its sin not to celebrate but watching people return to their old ways and celebrating by eating excessively makes me more confident in my decision.

The reasoning for this decision is because I believe Musa was sent the Quran first, Muhammad received the final chapter.

From Adam to Lut (excluding Ibrahim) it was the era of one choice, accept or face the consequences. From Ibrahim (who taught us reasoning) to Musa the message was delivered orally, from Musa to Muhammad it was literature.

This doesn’t mean I accept Old Testament or New Testament as the Quran. Those other books are not the words of Allah.

_________

OLD TESTAMENT IS NOT THE TORAH, NOR IS THE INJEEL THE NEW TESTAMENT

_________

It is mans recorded history

It can quickly be identified in the New Testament, which is written from 4 men’s (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) witnessing of a prophet and recording his actions and sayings.

Islamic ally this is known as HADITH AND NOT THE PROTECTED WORD OF ALLAH, the Injeel.

The Old Testament can also be clearly identified as not the word of Allah (the Torah or the Law of Allah) but mens recorded history by seeing a bit more detail.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Quran 3:93 All the food was made lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel forbade for himself before the Torah was sent down. Say: “Bring the Torah and recite it if you are truthful.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

1:

The First Arabic Translation of Old Testament was in 900 CE by R. Saadias Gaon. “Bring the Torah” mentioned in 3.93 can’t be a Torah in Arabic and could only be in classical Hebrew, meaning a communication breakdown. (Not to mention the oldest copy of the Old Testament is 10th century CE and not in the same classical Hebrew spoken during Moses’ time.)

Another reason 3.93 can’t be a Torah before the Quran is Allah confirms they (the Arabs who received the Quran) weren’t given any scriptures prior.

If they weren’t given scriptures prior that means they also didn’t have a copy of OT to bring forward, as challenged by this ayat.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Quran 34:44-45 AND NOT WE (HAD) GIVEN THEM ANY SCRIPTURES

which they could study, and not We sent to them before you any warner. And denied those who (were) before them and not they have attained a tenth (of) what We (had) given them. But they denied My Messengers, so how was My rejection?

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

2:

3:93 is saying what was restricted to the Children of Israel is what they restricted upon themselves, importantly it mentions BEFORE the Torah.

Even though Deuteronomy is the final book the restrictions mentioned above (what they restricted upon themselves in Deuteronomy 14.6-10 and what Allah restricted them due to their own restrictions Quran 6:146) is before the Torah, according to the Quran.

That also means ALL of their books prior ( Bresheit (Genesis), Shemot (Exodus), Vayicra (Leviticus), Bamidbar (Numbers), and Devarim (Deuteronomy)) is not and can not be a part of the Torah but before it

3:

Deuteronomy 34:5-10 it mentions events that followed after Moses death. Clearly can’t be written by Musa.

4:

Allah says he protects his word. This means not just in the Quran but anytime in history that his word has been delivered. That book (including the New Testament) is full of corruption

5:

The Quran also says that the example of Muhammad is in the Torah, but its not in that other book. Ahmad Deedat fans will argue that it mentions Muhammadim but please read more about the character, do you really want your prophetto be the sexually active character it describes.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

48.29  >>>MUHAMMAD IS THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH,<<< and those with him are firm of heart against the unbelievers, compassionate among themselves; you will see them bowing down, prostrating themselves, seeking grace from Allah and pleasure; their marks are in their faces because of the effect of prostration;

>>>THAT IS THEIR DESCRIPTION IN THE TAURAT AND THEIR DESCRIPTION IN THE INJEEL;<<< like as seed-produce that puts forth its sprout, then strengthens it, so it becomes stout and stands firmly on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the unbelievers on account of them; Allah has promised those among them who believe and do good, forgiveness and a great reward.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

_________

SO WHERE IS THE TORAH?

_________

Majority of translators due to outside influence completely misinterprets “Bayna yadayhi”. They always say it means BEFORE, but literally it translates as BETWEEN his hands

The Torah is NOT a book before the Quran but within its pages

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

3:50 “And authenticating what is –>between my hands <–of the Torah, and to make lawful some of that which was made unlawful to you; and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so be aware of God and obey me.”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

5:48  And We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, authenticating what is –>between your hands <–of the Book and superseding it. So judge between them by what God has sent down, and do not follow their desires from what has come to you of the truth. For each of you We have made laws, and a structure; and if God had willed, He would have made you all one nation, but He tests you with what He has given you; so strive to do good. To God you will return all of you, and He will inform you regarding that in which you dispute.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

6:92 And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed, authenticating what is –>between his hands<–, and that you may warn the capital of the towns and those around it. And those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and they maintain their contact prayer.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

10:37 This Qur’an could not have been produced without God; it is to authenticate what is –>between his hands<–, and to give details of the Book in which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

12:111 In their stories is a lesson for those who possess intelligence. It is not a narration that has been invented, but an authentication of what is –>between his hands<– and a detailing of all things, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

35:31 And what We inspired to you from the Book, it is the truth, authenticating what is –>between his hands<–. God is Expert over His servants, Seer

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

46:30  They said: O our people, we have heard a Book that was sent down after Moses, authenticating what is –>between his hands<–. It guides to the truth; and to a straight path.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

61:6  And when Jesus, son of Mary, said: O children of Israel, I am a messenger of God to you, authenticating what is –>between my hands<– of the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me whose name will be most acclaimed. But when he showed them the clear proofs, they said: This is clearly magic

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

So Quran reiterates the Torah and Injeel are BAYNA YADAYHI, between hands and not a separate book.

_________

SO WHY THEN DOES THE TORAH HAVE DIFFERENT TITLE TO QURAN OR INJEEL ETC, WHY DOESN’T ALLAH JUST GIVE IT ONE TITLE?

_________

Allah also gives himself attributes aka titles (Adl, Rahman, Rahim, Wadud, Hakk, etc). He does this because every path is unique (so he approaches each differently Adl, Rahman etc) and when asked from someone we can respond. We can’t just say he is indescribable because the truths he is, so we use the attributes to explain him.

We explain via one or multiple attributes, through his justice, his truth, his mercy, his love etc

Allah mentions 200+ times he has sent to mankind Alkitab. The Book is not plural. A singular book that encompasses all and explains all.

The Al-Kitab has many different names just like Allah has attributes

(Al-Furqan, Sultan, Al-Hikmah, Hudan, Nazil, Wahi, Kalaam, Basir, Ayat, Ajeeb, An-Noor, Ahsan al Hadees, Aahsan al Qasas, Al-Amsaal, Moeza, Tawrah, Injeel, Zabur, Burhan, Az-Zikr, Alwah, Ziya, Bayyinaat, Risalaat, Al-Anba, Al-Qaul, Suhuf, Shariah, Al-Amr’illah, Al-Haq, Al-ilm)

One of names of the book is “QURAN” which means to recite. (Allah didn’t create any new word in the Quran. All the words, the entire language of the Quran were used were already in common language. The word Quran meant recite before the book was delivered)

Another name of the Alkitab is Torah which means law

Another name of the alkitab is Injeel which means good news.

There are no separate books. (the plural of Kitab (Kutub) and is mentioned 6 times.

In 98:2-3 it says that

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

“A messenger from God reciting purified scripts. In them are valuable books.”,

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

meaning all (kutubs) books are within this one (kitab) book.

So when you read the laws of Alkitab the book becomes the law that must be followed

When you read the good news within its pages the Alkitab becomes the Injeel.

This is also means we can all have a Quran in our houses and on shelves, but only till you read the book and the words are contemplated, RECITED and reflected, only then does the book become a QURAN meaning recitation.

_________

MUSA RECEIVED THE QURAN.

_________

Heres some proof Musa received the book between our hands the Quran

1:

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

85:21-22 No, it is a glorious Quran. In a tablet ( لَوْحٍ) (ALAWHIN) preserved.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

THE QURAN in this Ayat is a Alwah.

Who received the Alwah aka QURAN?

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

7:145 (Direct to Musa) And We wrote for him on the tablets ( الْأَلْوَاحِ) (l-ALWAHIN) from all things a lesson, and detailing all things. Take it with strength and order your people to take the best from it. I will show you the abode of the wicked.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

7:154 And when the anger subsided from Moses, he took the tablets; ( الْأَلْوَاحَ) (l-ALWAHA)

and in its inscription was a guidance and a mercy for those who reverence their Lord.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

7:150 And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved,  he said:  “Miserable is what you have done after I was gone;  do you wish to hasten the action of your Lord?”  And he cast down the tablets, ( الْأَلْوَاحَ) (l-ALWAHA) and took his brother by his head dragging him towards him.  He said: “Son of my mother, the people overpowered me and nearly killed me,

so do not make the enemies rejoice over me, and do not make me with the wicked people.”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Musa received the Alwah which is also known as the Quran

2:

Who received the Criterion?

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

2:53 And We gave Moses the Book and THE CRITERION (Al-Furqāna), perhaps you would be guided.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

3:4  From before as a guidance for the people, AND HE SENT DOWN THE CRITERION (Al-Furqāna). Those who rejected the revelations of God, they will have a severe retribution, and God is Noble, exacting in Revenge.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

8:41 And know that anything you profit, one-fifth shall go to God and the messenger, and the relatives, and the orphans, and the poor, and the wayfarer. You will do this if you believe in God and in what We revealed to Our servant on the DAY OF THE CRITERION (Al-Furqāni) the day the two armies clashed; and God is capable of all things.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

21:48 And We had given MOSES AND AARON THE CRITERION (Al-Furqāna), a shining light, and reminder for the righteous.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

25:1 Blessed is the One who sent down THE CRITERION (Al-Furqāna) to His servant, so it can be a warner to the world.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

When was the criterion received?

It mentions in Ramadan the criterion Al-Furqan was sent

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

2:185 MONTH (OF) RAMADHAAN (IS) THAT WAS REVEALED THEREIN THE QURAN, a Guidance for mankind and clear proofs of [the] Guidance AND THE CRITERION (WAALFURQANI) So whoever witnesses among you the month, then he should fast in it, and whoever is sick or on a journey then prescribed number (should be made up) from days other. Intends Allah for you [the] ease and not intends for you [the] hardship, so that you complete the prescribed period and that you magnify Allah for [what] He guided you so that you may (be) grateful.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

As shown in 2.185 it mentions Ramadan and Quran and Al-Furqan. Musa while on the mountain receiving the “Quran” spent 30 day fasting then plus an additional 10 from his own accord.

So I accept dhul Hijjahis is a reference to fasting 10 nights from your own accord after Ramadan to complete 40 nights. It also doesn’t makes no sense to have the ten nights on the already bless nights of the month of Ramadhaan

When we begin to understand Musa received the Quran first the it sheds new light on many subjects. For example when he received the words upon the mountain he proclaimed he was the “first of the believers”, the first to believe the written words of Allah that were recited to him aka Quran (meaning recite) (7.143). Another quick example in 59.21 and the mountain crumbling is referring to the crumbling mountain that Musa witnessed.

It also sheds new light on Eid and celebrating

_________

Musa and Eid Festivities

_________

In the Quran the word Eid is used only once and its from Isa.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

5:114 Said Isa, son (of) Maryam, “O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table spread from the heaven to be for us a festival (Eid’an) for first of us and last of us and a sign from You. And provide us, and You (are) best (of) the providers

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Here Isa is speaking only to his disciples.

If you accept this Eid in the ayat as sufficient evidence to have an Eid celebration than you must also consider the consequences of double punishment mentioned in the next ayat

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

5:115 Allah said, “Indeed I (will) send it down to you, then whoever disbelieves after (that) among you, then indeed I [I] will punish him (with) a punishment not I have punished anyone among the worlds.”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

So this Eid is not the Eid we celebrate. It was a one off Eid for the disciples.

Understanding that Musa received the Quran while he was  on his fast we also find people who celebrated.

As Musa is receiving revelations ( and fasting) on the mountain an Israelite named Samiri decides to create a calf.

What does he say,

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

20.96 He said, “I noticed what they did not notice, so I took a portion from the teaching of the messenger (footsteps/tracks), and I cast it away. This is what my person inspired me to do.”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Every single hadith (besides the Best Hadith that’s between our hands) falls under this ayat.

1:

“I” noticed what they did not notice…… Every hadith is a witnessing from one person perspective.

2:

I took a portion from the teachings…… Every hadith (to be authenticated properly) is based on portions of the teachings

3:

Inspired from himself and not Allah

While the Prophet was bringing them the words of Allah, Samiri decided that something else like the calf could guide and was worthy of being recognised.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

7.148 And took (the) people (of) Musa, after him from their ornaments an image a calf [for] it (had) a lowing sound. Did not they see that it not speak to them and not guide them (to) a way? They took it and they were wrongdoers.

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The Musa narration here is implying after our fast a majority return to worshipping the calf, following ridiculous words of men rather than that prescribed to us from Allah.

_________

Another quick idea

_________

As Ive shown I believe Musa is the first to receive the Quran and also the first to fast with 30 days (and 10 more from his own desire)

I also think he was upon the mountain for 30 nights when he asked to see Allah in this ayat

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

7:143 And when Musa came to Our appointed place and spoke to him his Lord, he said, “O my Lord! Show me (that) I may look at You.” He said, “Never you (can) see Me, but look at the mountain [then] if it remains in its place then you will see Me.” But when revealed (His) Glory his Lord to the mountain, He made it crumbled to dust and Musa fell down unconscious. And when he recovered he said, “Glory be to You! I turn (in repentance) to you, and I am (the) first (of) the believers.”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

When he collapsed (the 30th day) I believe he (Musa) was the one who took the night journey mentioned in 17:1. This is because the very next ayat 17:2 begins with “And we gave Musa the BOOK”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

17:1-2 Exalted (is) the One Who took His servant (by) night from Al-Masjid Al-Haraam, to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa which We blessed its surroundings, that We may show of Our Signs. Indeed He, He (is) the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. And We gave Musa the Book, and made it a guidance for the Children (of) Israel, “That not you take other than Me (as) a Disposer of affairs.”

 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Then after Musa descended from his 30 days +10 dhul hijjah nights of fasting on the mountain he found his people had returned to their old ways.
